A long weekend in Milan

Here’s my short guide for your next weekend getaway to Milan.

e/n enoteca naturale

Enoteca is a secret gem amongst locals. As it is mainly a natural wine bar, their selection is extensive and delicious. We told the waiter what we had in mind for a wine in terms of body and taste, and he brought us the perfect bottle. Their food menu changes weekly so their dishes taste even more special. We tried basically every item on the menu and were floored by each one. So many rich and unique flavours…

Felice a Testaccio

This is a great spot for Roman cuisine and has a really great wine list. I still can’t stop thinking about the Carbonara we had there.

Trattoria Milanese

Dal 1933. A local spot for traditional and authentic Milanese cuisine. It’s located away from the crowds, tucked away on a side street. I recommend getting the Risotto Milanese (a staple dish). It is on the pricier side, and best for a lunch spot. Flo Wine located right next door is great for a pre or after dinner drink.

Trattoria La Vecchia Guardia

Another local trattoria that serves up a really delicious Risotto Milanese with Ossobuco. It’s really perfectly cooked, but once you’ve had it on the trip you’re pretty much set. We went for dinner but it’s much more of a lunch spot. Feels more like a family restaurant.

Il Panino del Laghetto

We stumbled upon this place by pure chance on our way to Villa Necchi. We looked at their menu outside and were immediately sold. The three of us ordered different sandwiches and each was as delicious as the other. It’s great for sitting down or taking a panino to go.

Pasta Fresca di Giovanni

A super small restaurant serving up only 4 kinds of pasta. I opted for the ragu pasta which was perfect. Simple, no frills good pasta.

Pizza e Mozzarella

Not only were the pizzas incredible but the prices left you feeling really joyful. Starting price for a pizza is 3,50 euros! Always full so make sure to go early or book ahead.

ITER

My friend took us here during the day for a coffee, which was filled with students and for a pre dinner drink later on. At night, this place turns into a bustling wine and cocktail bar. Their apperitivi are excellent as well!

MAG cafe (Navigli)

Another Navigli spot. It’s quite a popular bar amongst foreigners and locals for their cosy setting and experimental drink list. I will say, they tend to put a spin on the classic cocktails such as on the espresso martini for example, so you should specify how you want it made to avoid feeling disappointed.

Pasticceria Marchesi

Visiting this store was like a pastry wonderland. Everything was perfectly packaged, it almost looked too beautiful to eat. Their panettone is apparently the best in Milan and I will agree, it was really good. We took a slice to go because it was packed inside.

Pasticceria Cucchi

This place was on my saved list but I never got to go. The pastries looked amazing.
