Cafe Cecilia review

There seems to be a trend when it comes to calling restaurants ‘cafes’, but this Hackney gem is every bit as elegant as it is relaxed. I’ve always been a fan of simplicity when it comes to interiors and Cafe Cecilia definitely hits all the marks. For starters, they use an open kitchen, where you can see each delicious dish coming out. The restaurant has beautiful lighting coming in from the large floor to ceiling windows that cover one whole side of the space.

The menu leans heavily on seasonality, and as I looked through, one of the dishes that caught my eye was the Marinated red peppers and Aubergine with goat cheese curd. That was a done deal. I will say that I managed to replicate the same dish at home and it was just as good, the key, of course, is the freshness of ingredients and good quality olive oil.

The showstopper: The Onglet with peppercorn sauce and chips. It was so good that we ordered another portion of bread to scarpetta the final remnants of the sauce. (I should also add that the bread was incredible)

I’ve only ever come for lunch on a weekday, but Cafe Cecilia must be wonderful for a cozy dinner with family, friends or even a special date.

Make sure to plan ahead as this place gets booked up all the time.
